Haunchwood
Includes remnants of ancient woodland that used to span Barpool Valley.
It is full of
- Silver Birch Trees
- Willow
- Coppiced Hazel
- Oak Trees
- Ash Trees
- Holly
- Blackthorn
In the Spring it is carpeted with.
The Woods are home to varied wildlife.
- Squirrels
- Jays
- Foxes
- Green Woodpeckers
- Muntjac Deer
- Rabbits
The Clay Pool is situated in the Haunchwood section of the Park and is home to local water life include a family of Mute Swans.
It is also called the Bluey by the locals, mainly the local fishermen who use the Clay Pool for *"Catch and Release" only.
* What is the purpose of Catch and Release?
Catch and release is a conservation practice developed to prevent overharvest of fish stocks in the face of growing human populations, mounting ecological pressure, increasingly effective fishing tackle and techniques, inadequate fishing regulations and enforcement, and habitat degradation.
It is also a nice place to have a picnic, feed the local water fowl and watch the sun go down.
Please note that some of the paths may not be accessible at
certain times of the year due to weather conditions. Also
due to it being a wildlife park some route are only accessible to
people who are able to walk on unleavened ground and use steps.
